Brigitte is an award-winning professional writer, editor and proofreader by training. With more than 20 years of professional experience in the fields of communications , marketing and philanthropic consulting services, Brigitte has served hundreds of clients in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Europe and Asia.
Brigitte also has diverse experience in law and the courts. Having served as a court reporter, court clerk and registrar, court and client representative, and court services officer, she has worked closely with crowns, counsel, the judiciary, parties and the public in courthouses in several cities across Ontario, She is highly familiar with the workings of both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.
During her time in the courts, Brigitte has been involved in a wide variety of court proceedings, including in-person, hybrid and remote matters. These have included both adult and youth cases being heard in the OCJ and the SCJ such as:
-criminal matters
(trials, pleas, case management, intensive case management, pre-trials, bail and video remand courts)
-SCJ family law matters
(case and settlement conferences, child protection and adoption proceedings, trial management conferences, and trials), and
-SCJ civil matters
(case and settlement conferences, trial scheduling conferences, pre-trials and trials).
She has also been involved in both judge-alone and jury trials.
As a certified ACT, Brigitte has served a variety of clients, including crown attorneys, the Ministry of the Attorney General,, defence counsel and private clients from across the province. She has transcribed and certified proceedings from both the OCJ and the SCJ in criminal, civil and family court- related matters.
She has also worked with clients to transcribe audio and video recordings to be used as evidence in court, including police witness statements.
Brigitte is married and has two children. In her spare time she enjoys photography, books and film as well as writing, gardening,, paddling in her kayak and swimming off the dock at her lakeside home.
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Brigitte has also pursued post secondary studies in photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design, journalism at Ryerson University, and languages at York University. Brigitte is currently studying Italian at the university level.
